Home office during Corona: my top 10 productivity tips

Working in a home office during Corona is often a big challenge for many employees. Work processes are slower, communication with colleagues is bumpy and your own productivity is affected.

The result: frustration builds up, stress spreads and you sit in front of the monitor with a smoking head. So that you bring more productivity into your everyday life when working in the home office during Corona, I would like to share with you in this article my 10 best
Productivity tips to help you get through the day successfully.

Why you need a clear structure in the home office

For me personally, working in a home office during Corona was also a big challenge at the beginning. I lacked structure and that led to me having to reorganize myself.

So I created a clearly structured daily routine that led to more productivity and less stress at work and in my private life. I'd like to tell you now exactly how my everyday life in the home office during Corona turned out.

My daily routine in the home office during Corona

05:30 - Time to get up

At 05:30 the alarm clock rings. Then I immediately jump into my sports clothes and complete my daily five-kilometre run on the Rhine promenade in Cologne.

Jogging invigorates both body and soul, which means I can start the day full of energy. A small additional effect: Through daily jogging, I have already been able to lose eight kilos in the home office during Corona.

06:00 to 08:00 - Start the day relaxed

After jogging, I jump into the shower and then have a hearty breakfast. While I'm doing that, I usually read the morning paper or an exciting book.

Reading is a kind of meditation substitute for me. It helps me to relax and clear my head to make. For this reason, I have made reading a permanent part of my everyday life.

08:00 to 12:00 - The work can begin

I sit down at my desk at 8 a.m. on the dot and start work. I usually have my first meeting at 9:30. Until then I plan the day, create to-do's and get the content I need as a content creator & copywriter at Greator.

In the best case scenario, I have all the other meetings behind me by 1 pm. This gives me the opportunity to then devote myself to my operational part of the work without disruptions and interruptions.

13:00 to 13:30 - Breaks are a must

In the home office during Corona, I usually take a short lunch break from 13:00 to 13:30. Here I usually cook myself a quick meal that is not heavy on the stomach. This way I prevent my body from shutting down and I still have enough to eat.
I have enough energy to concentrate.

13:30 to 17:30 - The operational work

From 13:30 to 17:30 I dedicate myself exclusively to the operational part of my work. This text, for example, was also written during this time.

Since my daily bread is writing and I need a clear head for it, I often listen to classical music or binural beats while writing texts. Beyond that I make use of other Productivity techniques, which I'll introduce you to later in this article.

The end of the day begins

At 17:30 the alarm clock rings again. Now it is called closing time. As a reward, I cook in the evening in the home office during Corona always something fancy to thank myself for the discipline and productivity at work.

I usually have dinner behind me around 18:30. Now the real free time begins. That means I make a hard cut as far as work is concerned. I no longer take calls, check my e-mails and messages.

The mind needs this sharp dividing line to recharge its batteries so that productivity can remain just as high on the next working day. Because it makes no sense to fill the entire day only with work, because you can burn out in the long run. And unfortunately, in the medium term, productivity suffers immensely.

Since Corona has eliminated a lot of activities that you can do in your free time, I have found a few new hobbies. For example, I've been playing the guitar for 10 months and can clear my head a bit through music.

Every now and then I also meet friends for a short walk (all corona compliant, of course), write on my novel, or arrange to meet friends for a call about Zoom.

At the same time, I always try to bring variety into my daily routine so that I can spend my time in the home office during Corona in a meaningful way.

In the following section, I'd like to tell you which productivity tips help me maintain a strict routine, especially in my day-to-day work.

Home Office during Corona

The 10 best productivity tips in the home office during Corona

Determine fixed working hours

Decide in advance when you're going to start working and when you're going to finish. Otherwise, you run the risk of putting off tasks, which will lead to you sitting at your desk until late at night and working unnecessary overtime.

In addition: With a fixed work rhythm you are much more productive in the home office during Corona. In this context, it also makes sense to inform your colleagues about your working hours so that they know exactly when you can be reached.

To-do lists and deadlines

Organization is half the battle. In this context, create a to-do list (you can also use tools for this). Set yourself clear deadlines that determine by when which tasks have to be completed.

This way you can manage your time wisely, work much more productively and avoid unnecessary stress in your workday. Focus your to-do lists on the "Eat-The-Frog-Principle" and always complete the most important and challenging tasks.

Separate workstation

If your desk is in the bedroom, this is not particularly advantageous. It's much better to separate your workspace from your bedroom or living room.

If you don't have an office room, it's enough to make yourself comfortable in the kitchen, for example. This way, you'll noticeably increase your productivity.

Decelerate everyday life

Working in a home office all the time during Corona involves quite a bit of stress. For this reason, it is particularly important to to slow down everyday life and to provide space for the soul to relax.

You can do this, for example, by MeditationYou can do this by doing a short breathing exercise, or by simply lying down in bed for ten minutes and trying not to think about anything.

put on working clothes

In the first lockdown at the home office, I went straight to the computer with my sleeping clothes on. And after work I went back to bed with my sleeping clothes.

I thought to myself, "Why even change?" The advantage of putting on "work clothes" is that you're basically adjusting to work.

Schedule a short workout

Don't worry, you don't have to exercise for hours every day. However, you also suffer from a massive lack of exercise due to corona.

To counteract this circumstance a little bit, a short workout is a good idea. Exercises that relax your back and neck muscles are especially important here. Because sitting a lot leads to annoying tensions.

Do not forget to walk

What do you do after lunch? Do you go straight back to your desk or do you give your head a chance to relax? The fact is, your body needs a little more relaxation here too.

For this reason, it is important to start a short walk after lunch. This has several advantages: On the one hand, your digestion is stimulated and on the other hand, you get some fresh air, which is good for your head.

Use the Pomodoro technique

The Pomodo technique is based on the theory that breaks increase thinking capacity and productivity. In this context, you can, for example, set an alarm clock.

This means that you work with focus for the next 45 minutes. Then you take 15 minutes to clear your head. You then repeat this process.

avoid distractions

You know the drill? You pull out your phone, surf Facebook, visit your favorite sites, and check for new deals at your favorite online store.

How much time do you think you're wasting this way when you could have been be productive can? For most people, it's two to three hours a day. That's pretty scary.

That's why it's important to avoid distractions and focus only on what's important during work hours. After work, you'll still have plenty of time to check out what your friends are up to on Facebook.

Provide light

Did you know. Too little daylight in the home office during Corona leads to headaches, concentration problems and depressive moods. That's why light is immensely important.

If your rooms tend to be darker from the ground up, a daylight lamp is a good idea. Otherwise, you should open the curtains and let more light into your home.
