But what is a philosophy of life anyway? Isn't it just about justifying your personal way of thinking? That depends on how much you want to know about the background. Philosophy, which deals with individual life, developed in the 19th century. Among the most important representatives of this movement were the Frenchman Henri Bergson and the German Wilhelm Dilthey. With the catchphrase philosophy of life, they created an alternative concept to the existing schools of thought, positivism and neo-Kantianism.

The Philosophy of life says that not only reason and science are important. Individual life is also part of reality - and stimulates thought.

In other words, there is more to it than just sober reality. Your gut feeling also plays a role. Even craziness is allowed. Creativity is part of life. If all people only ever thought and acted rationally - then everything would be boring and predictable.

  • The Buddhist philosophy of life focuses on personal freedom. This means, among other things, that everyone in a partnership is free to decide on their intimate contacts.
  • For many people, civil courage is important. In a risky situation, they dare to intervene - because they cannot and do not want to do otherwise.
  • People who expect to die soon are often depressed. However, some people manage to enjoy the precious moments in particular - because they want to celebrate life for as long as possible.

Some people want to help other people, others only want to achieve their own wishes. Typical positive wishes include

  • physical and mental activity,

Motivation in life is often only part of the philosophy of life. And priorities can shift over the course of a lifetime. This affects your entire philosophy of life. As long as you stay true to yourself and don't deny yourself, that's perfectly fine. After all, everyone evolves.

You may go from being a staunch, sometimes even militant environmentalist to a compliant pacifist. Or you might focus on a successful career - until you discover your artistic talent and prefer to get creative.

Future events are unpredictable and the world is a strange place. It is not possible to arm yourself against all possible eventualities. But if you have found your own philosophy of life, it will be easier for you to make decisions.

  • How do you deal with other people, and with yourself?
  • Do you have principles in life - and how consistently do you stick to them?
  • What does happiness mean to you?
  • What do you do for other people?
  • If the Faith play a role for you?
  • What do you like to spend your time doing?
